WOMEN'S CLUB - New club at APHS!. Women's Club strives to inspire, support and empower all women through volunteering, advocacy and leadership development. Meetings are every Wednesday 3:35-4 p.m. in Room 10-213.  Some meetings may extend past 4 p.m.  Sponsor is Mr. Respress.

YOUTH FOR CHRIST - Meets in the Media Center during both lunches on Wednesdays for the Alpha Series. They will not be here Wednesday, Jan. 14 but will resume Jan. 21.  They will also be in the Cafeteria on Friday Jan. 16 during lunches.

Grad Bash is a once-in-a-lifetime, rite of passage celebration for high school seniors.  Seniors will  enjoy an exciting night with their friends with exclusive, private access to both Universal Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida.  Tickets will be on sale January 20 to February 20.  ALL FINES MUST BE PAID PRIOR to purchasing a ticket.  See Mrs. Barrett or Mrs. Lee for more information or to purchase your ticket.

COMPETITION CHEER TAKES 1ST

Congratulations to the APHS Competition Cheer team on their first place wins at the annual Bring the Heat cheer competition hosted by APHS on Jan. 3.  Out of 26 cheer teams competing, APHS won first place in Traditional, small non-tumbling and first place in Gameday, coed.  Great job on your win!

HIGHLANDS COUNTY CAREER FAIR

Approximately 180 APHS Juniors and Seniors will attend the Highlands County Career and Community Service Fair on January 15 at the Alan Jay Arena.  The fair is a partnership with Leadership Highlands and the Mason G. Smoak Foundation.

BETHUNE-COOKMAN UNIVERSITY

Mrs. Barrett's College and Career program took 50 students to Bethune-Cookman University (BCU) in Daytona Beach, Florida on Jan. 3rd.  The field trip was intended to introduce the historical development of BCU and the achievements of its founder Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune.  Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune was an American educator, humanitarian, civil rights activist and philanthropist.  The campus tour included a visit to her gravesite and to her house, which is now a national archive.  After the tour, the students attended a college basketball game between rivalries, Bethune-Cookman versus Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.

The APHS Choir (pictured above) was once again selected to sing at the Disney's Christmas Candlelight Processional held at Epcot Dec. 14. "There were a lot of schools not accepted this year," said Mrs. Loomis.  "It's a real honor to be selected.  The choir represented APHS with excellence.  They sang beautifully and behaved responsibly.  I am very, very proud of them."

Jan. 15-17 - Elisa Virkler will be at All-State. 

Jan. 30-31 - 23 soloists, a duet, a men's ensemble and the Show Choir will be going to Solo/Ensemble this year.
